What if warriors of different ages and places used a now common material like jeans to make their armour?
Being challenged to create something in 2 days, something I had been wanting to do for sometime. So I picked up the old and broken jeans that i had laying around and started playing around with it wondering what i would make. I started with a design of a knight with a cape based of of the collection of elements that I extracted out of the pair of jeans.
This first headwear garment was received with enthousiasm from my classmates, who all wanted to try it on.
The next step of the challenge was to extend this single piece of work and make it into a series. So I drew out more warrior inspired masks and 5 of them made the cut.
The material inspired the most of the storyline. Jeans.. once a new material, now an everyday commodity and a staple in everyones closet, man or woman. Its characteristic blue color is what binds them together along with the embroidered details in each work, inspired by the vivid dreams I had while I was working on the project.
